Frequently asked questions
Below are answers to our most common queries but if there is anything else you would like to ask please do contact me directly.
How do I place an order?
You can enquire by using the contact form or by emailing edenvalleycakes@outlook.com and I will contact you directly. Orders are not confirmed until full payment has been received.
How much notice do you need?
I generally require 3-4 weeks notice for personalised celebration cakes but this depends on availability and how many other orders I have. I may be able to make a cake or cupcakes at short notice so do get in touch as I may be able to fit you in. I only have limited availability so if you are planning a cake please get in touch as soon as possible.
How do I pay?
Payment is by bank transfer and full payment is required for an order to be confirmed. For wedding cakes a £100 non-refundable deposit is required to save the date with full payment four weeks before the wedding date.
How much cake do I need?
These are approximate guides and depend how the cake is sliced. My cakes are very tall, generally around 9" in height not including toppings and slices should be cut in half horizontally for serving. Servings per cake are:
4" cake - 12
6" cake - 26
8" cake - 40
10" cake - 76
12" cake - 104
If you have any questions about how much cake you should order for your event or would like information about tiered cakes please do get in touch.
How should I store my cakes?
Cakes should be stored at room temperature in a cool dry place.
How long will the cakes last?
All cakes are freshly made to order without preservatives and are best eaten within three days of collection/delivery.
Can you copy a cake I have seen?
I cannot produce exact copies of any cakes but if you have seen a cake which you like the style of or you would like to recreate one of my previous designs please feel free to send photos with your enquiry.
Can you post cakes?
No unfortunately the cakes would not survive posting.
Can you deliver?
Possibly. My cakes are generally collection only but depending on availability and whether I have other cakes being collected, I may be able to deliver within 10 miles of Great Salkeld, Cumbria for an additional charge.
Tiered cakes such as wedding cakes are always delivered by me at an additional charge.
Can you cater for allergies?
All my orders are prepared in a domestic kitchen where a wide range of allergens are present, including but not limited to: peanuts, tree nuts, milk, egg, wheat/gluten, sesame, soya, mustard, celery, fish, crustaceans, molluscs and sulphur dioxide. Despite thorough cleaning, I cannot guarantee that any food item is completely free from allergens, due to risk of cross contamination.
Allergen information is provided on the box for each order. All cakes and sprinkles are suitable for vegetarians.
How do I transport the cake?
Hold the cake box by the base and not the sides as this can damage the cake.
Cakes must be transported on a flat surface, preferably the front passenger footwell or empty car boot and not a sloping car seat or passenger's knee. The cake should not be left in a vehicle for a prolonged period of time. On warm days please make sure the air conditioning is on and the car is cooled before you arrive.
